Gotham City Impostors Review

Check out our review for Gotham City Impostors.
Serious comic book stuff... Who needs it?

Last year we watched in complete amazement as Batman: Arkham City topped the charts overall amongst multiple top level reviewers. Arkham City was both an intensely epic, and incredibly serious Batman experience, but do you need something more? Are you looking for a more humorous action packed Gotham City multiplayer experience? Well, you can pretty much end your search because Gotham City Impostors may be just what you are looking for.

Gotham City Impostors throws you into the shoes of some overly obsessed Batman and Joker impersonators who decide to “play” while the Dark Knight is away. Batman's loyal fans go head to head against Joker's loyal fans in their attempts to... well... actually I am not quite sure why they have their hearts set on killing each other.

Picture the style of your favorite FPS shooter, say Call of Duty or Battlefield. Now picture that game with the graphics quality and style dampened down extremely. Now add a few items that most would deem as non-sense, such as a pipe-bomb or roller-skates. Finally picture a whole crap load of overweight and out of shape losers dressed up like Batman and the Joker. This... this is Gotham City Impostors.

This game is exceptionally unique. It's individuality is not derived from the presence of many Batman elements. Oh no, the game is unique because it took the elements of a genre we all know and love and turned it into a full fledged first person shooter.

After playing the beta for the first time I was pleased. I enjoyed the many gadgets and weapons that I had at my disposal. I felt the constant urge to propel myself from the ground, using various trampalines and ramps, in order take a “death from above” approach.

This game is all multiplayer, which in turn means that you are going to get both metaphorically and emotionally raped (hopefully not physically because... that would just terrible). If you consider yourself addicted, in a sense, to the ruthless bullet blazing battles in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, you might play Gotham City Impostors for a few matches, but chances are this game won't appeal. Trust me when I say that I am not going down on anybody, or anything. What I am actually saying is there are games that some just will not play. Gotham City Impostors might be one of those games, but of course the decision is ultimately up to the consumers.

FINAL REMARKS

Gotham City Impostors is a unique game and provides a fresh take on both first-person shooters, as well as Batman in general.

The weapons and gadgets are cool and provide an awesome way to get your game on.

The game in and of itself is a fun way to kick and then proceed to tear asses to pieces.

Sadly, Gotham City Impostors (opinion) may not appeal to many for a few reasons:
  • The complete lack of "realism"
  • Ridiculous situations and modes create a "child-like" style
  • It, heaven forbid, is not serious (hence the cancelling of 'Batman: the Brave and the Bold' series)
  • The lasting appeal may be less than exceptional

Did you get to play the Gotham City Impostors Beta?
